The January 2024 session of the ISPA Day Skipper Course was held.
In the Day Skipper course, you will learn the skills to plan your voyage and go on a day cruise.
This is a three-session course.
On the first day, we learned how to read the charts.
Once I learned how to read the chart, I planned my voyage to Odawa Bay.
Afterwards, we went on a cruise to a nearby bay to practice anchoring...
Just as I was thinking that, the wind started to pick up.
Unfortunately, we were unable to launch the boat on this day.
In the afternoon, we had an intensive lecture on weather.
Day 2.
The atmospheric conditions were unstable again that day.
The weather is expected to be fine and calm in the morning, but the weather is expected to change suddenly in the afternoon.
It seems a little dangerous to go far, so we decide to change our destination to a nearby one and practice anchoring.
Being able to adapt your plans to suit the weather is an important skill for a skipper.
However, the weather was really nice this morning!
We raise sail and head to Anchorage.
Anchoring is an important cruising technique.
They investigate the geology of the seabed, check the water depth, and ensure safety when the wind changes and the ship swings around.
There's a lot to do.
Once you've successfully anchored, make some coffee and take a break.
The weather is likely to change suddenly in the afternoon, so we return to the harbor early.
While we were practicing launching and landing in the harbor, the weather suddenly changed as predicted.
Thunderclouds were approaching, so we ended practice early.
Day 3.
Strong winds are forecast for the third day as well...
The weather doesn't seem to be very good.
However, unlike the second day, although the wind was strong, it was stable and it didn't look like it would suddenly become rough.
Being extremely careful, we decided to go to Odawa Bay as per our original voyage plan.
It's cloudy and quite cold, but let's do our best.
The wind is not very strong yet, so we sail with full sail.
We arrived at Odawa Bay in no time at a good speed.
It'll be lunchtime.
As we were eating lunch, the wind started to pick up.
On the way back, practice reefing the sail!
Reduce the sail to control power.
Even when reefed, it's powerful!
We returned to the harbor by repeatedly tacking in close hold.
The weather wasn't the best for the three courses, but we still had some great sailing in the end.
Please use the navigation plan you have learned and enjoy your cruise.
Thank you to everyone who participated.
