What is sailing?
What kind of yacht does the school use?

The yachts used at Hayama Sailing College are simple, small yachts.

For groups, there are also yachts with two sails that can accommodate four people.

Sailing cruisers with engines have cabins where you can stay overnight.
Is sailing difficult?

You won't be able to operate a sailing boat by yourself from the beginning, so start by learning the basics of sailing one-on-one for three sessions.

Once you get used to it, try riding alone with the support of the boat.

Progress varies from person to person, but most people are able to ride alone after about 10 days. Give it a try!
When is yachting season?

Yachting is a sport that can be enjoyed all year round. Of course, in the summer, you can enjoy sailing comfortably with the sea breeze (southern wind blowing in from the sea).

Spring and autumn are the best seasons for sailing. With good winds, yacht races and other events are also held frequently.

In winter in Hayama, you can see Mt. Fuji right in front of you and the sea is very clear and beautiful. You can enjoy the crystal clear sea while riding on the calm land breeze.
What to wear on a yacht?

In warmer seasons, we recommend wearing clothing that is easy to move in and quick-drying.

In spring and autumn, you'll need a wetsuit that is easy to move in and keeps you warm.

In winter, you can enjoy sailing to the fullest by wearing a dry suit or a thick wetsuit that is highly insulating and waterproof.
