The first beginners race of the year was held.
It was a very cold day with cloudy skies from the morning, but six boats participated despite the cold.

It's cold, but the wind is pretty steady.
Winds from the north at around 4m/s.
The course for the beginners' race starts with a beam reach start.
After that, sail around the first mark in the beam reach direction and go up from the lower mark.
From the top mark, you go around the side mark again and finally reach the finish line with a beam reach.
It's hard to explain in words, but it's the same course as SailGP, but without the gate marks.
...Maybe I don't understand it too much.
Even beginners will need to control their speed before the start and judge their rights at the crowded first mark.
For example, covering for following boats when heading towards the top mark.
There's plenty to think about and learn.
In particular, the beam reach start seems to be side by side,
Sail trimming technique can make a surprising difference. It's interesting.

The winner of this beginners' race was Mr. O from the junior high school yacht club!

O-kun is the first to cross the final mark!
It was impressive to see the tenacity with which they steadily climbed the ranks, even after going way off course, by precisely trimming their sails to suit the strength of the wind!
Thank you to everyone who participated, braving the cold weather!
The next beginners race is scheduled for Friday, February 11th (national holiday).
Stay tuned.
