Miho MIDWINTER 2021 will be held in January!

In 2021, one boat from Hayama participated in Miho MIDWINTER 2021, which was held on Saturday, January 16th and Sunday, January 17th!

We arrived in our vehicles to ensure sufficient contact prevention, and each boat was quietly rigged at a distance from each other. Each boat was also able to launch quietly, so the race was held without any crowding at all.

16th (Sat) DAY 1
The wind was already blowing lightly and the sky was clear, so I thought this was good, but the wind started to pick up just before 10:00, and by the time the boats were getting ready for the 11:00 race and were setting out, it felt like a strong wind of nearly 10m/s. (I later found that the official wind speed was 9.2m/s, and I think it was just over 12m/s at its peak.) I think even Mount Fuji was covered in clouds when the race started.

There was no wind at the time of the opening ceremony and skippers' meeting, but the sea conditions immediately afterwards were such that the race started at 11am. Mr. K from the local RS700 was not participating this time as he was on a rescue boat for the event organizers. During the race, the level of skill of the Miho team was very clear. During the race, I could clearly see the level of skill of the Miho team members. Despite the strong wind, the sea surface at Miho is characterized by the lack of large swells. I was surprised by the unusual sea surface and felt the significance of competing with other styles. Why not consider joining next year?

January 17th (Sunday) DAY 2
I returned home in the afternoon of the previous day, so when I checked the weather on the 17th, it seemed like the wind had died down a bit compared to the previous day, but it was still blowing quite a bit. We spent these two days together with fellow RS boaters from the RS Association. We would like to thank the Shimizu Port Yacht Association Small Boat Division for organizing the event safely. We look forward to the day when we can all overcome COVID-19 together and enjoy the event more easily with people from all over the country.
