When I started my sea kayaking school, I was looking for a kayak that could be safely used for 10 or 20 years by beginners to veterans, and by small women to large men, but I couldn't find anything that met my expectations.

The boat must be small, easy to handle, and lightweight, and must also be durable in strong winds and high waves. When the wind is weak and there are no waves, any boat will do, but this is not the case when used on the ocean.

I reunited with sea kayak designer Hiromichi Toyoshima, president of Workshop Funato Yume, in 2007. Toyoshima participated as a crew member on the America's Cup Challenge Team, but he utilized his experience as a shipbuilder to become a member of the top team's shipbuilding staff. While also involved in the construction of Team New Zealand, he also spent six months in Auckland as a member of the Japanese team's shipbuilding staff, helping to build boats. Toyoshima and I were teammates on the 1992 America's Cup Challenge Team, but after the team disbanded, we went our separate ways. I raced in a single-seater dinghy in races around Europe and Oceania. After a lull in racing, I started a sailing school, and later a sea kayaking school. Shortly after starting sea kayaking, I found the kayak I rode very comfortable, so I looked it up online and discovered that Toyoshima was also building kayaks. I knew he was building great boats, so I immediately contacted him.

After several years of solidifying my ideas, I finally got the sea kayak I wanted to make made. After the first kayak was completed, I conducted various tests and decided to start selling it based on the results of three years of testing.

As each boat is carefully crafted, we are unable to mass produce them, so they are sold by pre-order. Thank you for your understanding regarding the lead time.

From 1997
Started Hayama Sailing College. As a coach, he has trained many people, including All Japan Championship winners, National Athletic Meet winners, and pre-Olympic athletes. He teaches everyone from beginners to top sailors, from juniors to those aged 80.

In 2002, the Hayama Sea Kayak School was started and the Sea Kayak Club was established.
Hayama Sea Club, a retailer of goods, is now operating the Hayama Sailing College Sea Kayak Club, the Hayama Sea Kayak Club Sales Department, and the Hayama Sea Club.

He holds ISPA International Cruising Instructor qualifications, Class 1 Small Boat Operator qualifications, teaching qualifications (junior high and high school), advanced lifeguard qualifications, and a Japan Recreational Canoe Association Sea Kayak Senior Instructor qualification. He learned the basics of shipbuilding from Mr. Toyoshima, who was on the America's Cup challenge team. After working part-time at a shipyard in Sajima Marina, he now works at Hayama Sailing College, where he repairs all of the company's club boats - 30 yachts and 40 sea kayaks - in-house. He has the skills to repair FRP, woodwork, and paint.
