The three-day weekend was a windy and changeable one, as is typical of early spring weather. There were various schools scheduled for Friday (a national holiday), including a practice session for the RS Catamaran 14, but they were postponed due to the rain and wind. It's a shame! Since it was a special occasion, we held a classroom lesson on sailing for those who wanted to take part.
The weather was fine on Saturday, and although it got a little windy in the afternoon, we were able to have a good practice in the spring-like weather.
Schools often use the RSZest, which has a high boom and is easy to rig!
This is a yacht that is easy for instructors to teach.
Strong winds are forecast for the following Sunday as well, so we set sail early before the wind picks up.
The number of boats was small with only seven boats taking part.
The wind started to get really strong just after 11am, so we quickly landed the boat. When tackling strong winds, it's important to sail safely and be aware that you'll be able to return quickly if the wind picks up!
